Account Deletion

1. How to delete your account

• Open Roomie and sign in to your registered account.
• Open the Profile screen.
• Tap Delete Account at the bottom of the screen and confirm.

Your account is deleted straight away and you are signed out on the device you used.

If you cannot sign in to the app, email a deletion request from the email address registered to your account. We will verify the request and delete the account for you.

2. Data that is deleted

• Account: Your username, email address, password, and linked Google, Apple, or Facebook sign-in identifiers.
• Profile: Your first name, date of birth, gender, location, and settings.
• Profile photo: The photo file is deleted from our servers.
• Devices and sessions: Your device records and push notification tokens. The session you deleted the account from is ended.
• Encryption keys: Your public keys and your PIN-encrypted key backup.
• Poll votes: Your votes are removed from every poll.
• Room memberships: Your memberships, pending invitations, and the Stripe payment references attached to them.
• Blocks: Blocks you made and blocks other users made against you.

3. Data that is kept without your name

So that other people's conversations stay readable, some content you created is kept but no longer shows your name. Instead it shows an anonymous label such as deleted_user_1a2b3c4d, a one-way code that cannot be traced back to your name or email address.

• Chat room messages you sent, including images, GIFs, and voice messages.
• Direct messages you sent. End-to-end encrypted direct messages stay stored in encrypted form; Roomie cannot read them, but the other person in the conversation still can.
• Polls you created.
• Q&A questions you asked.

Direct messages that other users sent to you also stay stored. If you want specific content removed as well, email us (see Contact).

4. Other data that is kept

• Voice messages sent in chat rooms or unencrypted direct messages are deleted automatically 90 days after upload. Voice messages in encrypted direct messages are kept in encrypted form with the conversation.
• Reports you made, or that others made about you, are kept so we can deal with abuse.
• Payment records held by Stripe are kept by Stripe as required by law and are governed by Stripe's privacy policy.
• Security and operational records may be kept where needed for abuse prevention, legitimate interests, or legal compliance.

5. Paid Rooms and hosted rooms

• Subscriptions: Any active Paid Room subscription is cancelled with Stripe, so you are not charged again. Payments already made are not refunded automatically.
• Rooms you host: Rooms you created stay open for the people already in them, but they are no longer linked to your profile and nobody can manage them as their host.

6. Automatic deletion

• Unused accounts: Registered accounts that were created at least six months ago and have never been signed in to since are deleted automatically, in the same way as described above. We email the account at least 14 days beforehand, and signing in once before the date in that email keeps the account.
• Guests: Guest users do not have a permanent account. Guest identifiers are deleted automatically after about 24 hours, and the content of guest chat messages is erased at the same time. A placeholder showing the guest's display name and the time sent remains in the room so the conversation stays readable.
